1984 to 1996 Corvette 4L80E Conversion Kit

Convert your C4 Corvette from a 700R4 / 4L60E to a much stronger 4L80E transmission. You get the Bionic 80 4L80E transmission (96 back) and the #80B lock-up billet torque converter rated at 800 horse power, 700R4 /4L60E to 4L80E conversion output shaft and tail housing, 4L80E cast aluminum dust cover, dipstick and tube, PATC T-shirt and the Compushift electronic control module. This 4L80E transmission will be the same length as your 700R4 / 4L60E transmission making it possible to reuse your existing 27 spline driveshaft and C-beam. If you have a problem with your fins coming loose this is the way to go. This converter stalls at 2200 to 2500 RPM and gives a faster launch than a stock converter. #2L-11. " Eleven Inch Super Street Raptor " Fits 4L60E transmissions, 1998 up LS1 type motors only. This 11 Inch stall converter is balanced, has furnace brazed fins, all bearing construction and a Sonnax carbon fiber clutch. This converter is lighter and has an inch smaller diameter than the stock size. It actually has a full size 12 inch clutch with an 11 inch converter body, notice the 1/2 inch inset on each side. This  converter can be ordered with stall speeds of 2600, 2800, 3000 or 3200 RPM. May stall up to 200 RPM higher with enough low end torque. Good up to 550 horse power. Cost $440.00

Quote by John Kilgore. “Obviously the lighter the rotating weight the better the transmission is able to respond. The energy requirements to run the transmission are directly related to the time you have to spin the parts up. If you have a lot of time (like on the street) it wont require that much power. But if you don't have a lot of time (like at the race track) it takes a TON of power. It's almost by the square. By reducing the overall weight of the internal workings of the transmission the “movement of inertia” from the center-out has been reduced dramatically, at least by one-inch.” Kilgore cited a more relative example, in layman's terms that is. “If you're familiar with watching ice skaters, when they do “spins,” as they spin, they pull their legs and arms in, and they tend to go faster. Now, no one gives the skater anymore energy, it just takes less energy to turn in a smaller circle, and go faster. Then when they want to stop, they put their arms and legs out and slow down. The introduction of lock-up torque converters from the OEM manufacturers in 1979 created a challenge for the high performance torque converter industry to develop, design and manufacture this type of torque converter. Benefits of the lock-up torque are less heat in the transmission and better fuel efficiency. Precision Industries designed the first 9.5 & 10.5-inch lock-up torque converter in 1992.

Precision Industries starts the production of these Chevy torque converters with a 98 pound piece of billet steel that we machine in our CNC equipment ending up with a one piece front cover weighing 12 pounds depending on what torque converter series we are building. The billet front cover is one of many reasons that enable Precision Industries to produce a superior product over many of our competitors that try to imitate and copy our product designs. We prefer machining our billet front covers over purchasing forged steel covers due to balancing, excessive weight and density problems that can arise from forgings in torque converters. One of the benefits of our cover is increased clutch surface area by as much as five times over OEM specifications. The increase in clutch surface area along with the unique clutch lining we use ensures that no matter what the application you can retain the lock-up feature for efficiency without durability issues.

Note This chart doesn't apply to C5 Corvettes, see C5 above. We recommend the Diablo Sport Predator (#20X) be used on all 1998 up 4L60E performance transmissions for the following reason. All 1998 ups have a Torque Management System that picks up the higher stall speed and firmer shifts. When this happens the computer thinks there's a problem and turns the pressure down. Then it detects a slip and turns the pressure up too high and blows the end out of the clutch drum. This problem is corrected with the use of the Predator. The price doesn't include Camaro type 6 bolt tail housings or C4 Corvette tail housings. There will be an added $100.00 fee on foreign transmission sales for testing in our test truck.

Transmission ratings are for non-supercharged systems using pump gasoline. Superchargers, Turbo Chargers, Nitrous, 4WD, Oversize Tires and Weight will lower these ratings.
